The READI (Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative) is a program aimed at enhancing the economic development and quality of life across Indiana by investing in various projects. These projects span multiple categories such as arts, education, infrastructure, and parks, with the goal of fostering regional growth and community well-being. The initiative seeks to showcase investments, track progress, and provide transparency about how funds are allocated and utilized.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners encountered significant challenges in accessing federal funding and resources from the State of Indiana due to inefficient and fragmented digital tools. The main issue was the need to develop a cohesive, intuitive platform that streamlined the process, making it easier for users to find and utilize these resources effectively.
To address these challenges, the solution is to create a responsive, visually engaging website that consolidates all relevant data and resources into a single platform. It will feature an intuitive interface with dynamic data displays and compelling narratives, integrate seamlessly with existing systems, and use interactive maps and filters to present information in a more accessible and meaningful way.
We interviewed various stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations for the READI initiative. The key takeaways from these interviews are as follows:
To enhance READI's platform, we explored competitor websites recommended by stakeholders. Our focus was on understanding how their favored information was laid out and incorporated effective design elements that align with READI’s goals.
Colorful Yet Clean: The LE CAMP pick was noted for its vibrant colors while maintaining a clean, uncluttered look. This balance makes the site visually appealing without overwhelming the user.
Preferred Non-Video Alternative: The Samara choice is favored as a strong alternative to the leap-lebanon site, particularly for its effective use of non-video content to engage users.
Minimal and Dynamic: The leap-lebanon pick was appreciated for its minimalistic and dynamic aesthetic. It stands out due to its simplicity and functionality, aligning well with preferences noted by the Secretary.
We developed a hierarchical structure that organized content into main categories and subcategories, ensuring that navigation paths were logical and aligned with user goals. We also incorporated any necessary technical constraints or requirements.
Anticipating the possibility of not receiving all project images before the site launch, we decided to modernize the region logos for a cohesive look across the site. These updated logos will serve as visual placeholders until the final project images are available.

Enhanced User Experience: Created an engaging and intuitive interface that effectively communicates project benefits and progress.
Developed a Responsive Website: Built a user-friendly platform that adapts seamlessly to both mobile and desktop devices
Improved Data Presentation: Implemented interactive maps and filters to make complex data more accessible and meaningful.
Through the READI project, I developed a deeper understanding of how to effectively communicate and collaborate with developers. I realized the significance of detailed annotations and clear documentation to convey design vision and transitions accurately. Creating visual mockups and videos proved to be essential for showcasing the design concepts effectively. Additionally, I learned the importance of preparing for scenarios where certain assets may not be ready by launch. In such cases, having modernized, placeholder thumbnails or temporary designs can ensure a cohesive presentation.
